November 2014

ESD-J participated in the UNESCO World Conference on ESD and held the following events.
ESD-J convened an official side event on “Citizens’ Initiative to Promote ESD – Partnership between Civil Societry and Business Community” and made a press release on the “Citizens’ Declaration to Promote ESD” and “”Suggestions on ESD by Local Communities and Civil Society”.

ESD-J invited approximately 30 business companies that showed interest on ESD and convened three meetings resulting in the adoption of the “ESD Declaration from the Japanese Business Community”

June 2012

Appeal at the UN Summit on Sustainable Development (Rio+20)
At Rio +20, ESD-J convened an official side event on the “Message from Asian NGO Network on ESD (ANNE) – Role of NGOs in Empowering the Local Community for Sustainable Development” At the side event, ESD-J and other Asian NGOs appealed the importance of ESD and the role that NGOs can play in Asia. They also made presentations on the ESD good practices in Asia.

February 2011

2010 Project proceedings for the establishment of Asia NGO Network on ESD was issued, towards the year 2014, the Final Year of UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.

December 2010

ESD-J convened an International Open Forum to Bridge NGOs between Asia and Japan
At the International Open Forum, discussions were held towards establishment of an ESD network of Asian NGOs to be set up in 2014.

October 2010

Message from AGEPP Network to CBD/COP10 participants
Call was made to CBD/COP10 participants for further strengthening cooperation and collaboration among Asian NGO communities on ESD and biodiversity.

May 2008

Message from Asian Civil Society Organizations to the Hokkaido Toyako Lake Summit
In May 2010, ESD-J, NGOs from six Asian countries, United Nations organizations, other international NGOs and NGOs that were based in Japan and promote ESD internationally, gathered and developed a “Message from Asian NGOs to the Hokkaido Toyako Lake G8 Summit.

2006-2008

AGEPP(Asia Good ESD Practice Project)Handbook for ESD in Asia
A project on Asia Good ESD Practice Project: AGEPP was implemented during 2006-2008 to share experiences at local communities and promote mutual learning among Asian NGOs. 34 good ESD practices were documented in English and in six Asian languages. They are installed in a multi-language database developed in this project.

January 2005

Participation to development of Ahmedabad Declaration
At the Kick-off Conference of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, an Ahmedabad Declaration was adopted, which called for a network of Asian NGOs to promote ESD in Asia.

February 2004

Submission of ESD-J Commitment for the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development in response to the call from UNESCO.
